The City will be dedicating the track at Hormel Stadium to Medford native and long-time Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray, founder of the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation and host of Run Medford, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced. The dedication will take place on Friday, September 22 at 4:30pm, during the first night of Run Medford.

McGillivray graduated from Medford High School in 1972 as class valedictorian. In 1978, he ran from Medford, OR, to Medford, MA, in support of the Jimmy Fund, an organization whose community-based fundraising events directly benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He then opened up Dave McGillivray Running and Sports Center in Medford, and soon transitioned to his event management business, Dave McGillivray Sports Enterprises. For the last 36 years, Dave has been the technical director and race director for the Boston Marathon.

“Run Medford is our City’s biggest race event and has had a huge positive impact on local business, non-profits, and residents,” said Mayor Lungo-Koehn. “This community-wide event would not have been possible without the support of Dave and the Finish Strong Foundation, so we are excited to honor his work with a dedication at the Hormel Stadium Track.”

“The Medford community, especially the running community, is so special and I love giving back in such an exciting way,” said McGillivray. “I’m honored to receive this track dedication as our team works to make Run Medford a community tradition for years to come.”

Run Medford is a weekend of races for all ages, including a Kids’ Fun Run, 5-mile race, 2-mile walk, high school mile, and the Dave McGillivray track dedication.
